The first Miss Nigeria USA Beauty Pageant took place May 23, 2015 at the international known Alvin Ailey Theater in New York City. Hosted by Pix11 Morning News producer/correspondent Ojinika Obiekewe and Comedian Dulo Harris and a performance by international entertainment star Banky W, it was an eclectic, amazing event. The showcase of talent and culture from women in different areas of Nigeria was beautiful. What was even more astonishing was to hear the causes that each of the 18 contestants were also representing. The foundations or causes that the 18 contestants represented deal with issues that are newsworthy abroad and domestic.
The mission of Miss Nigeria USA is to find, appreciate and promote women in strong goals and interests in promoting the Nigerian culture and supporting caused related to education and women empowerment.They aim to be recognized as a leading world organization that empowers young women and supports them towards achieving their individual goals as they promote their culture.
It started with 18 contestants showcasing their beauty, culture, talents and knowledge. Judges included Bianca Golden from Americas Next Top Model (ANTM), Greg Mocker of PIX 11 News, Kaitlin Monte, PIX 11 Morning News, Serial entrepreneur Solo Nnanna, and Chinyere Adogu, Media Personality.
The event was successful because all the contestants gave their all, with support from family, friends and spectators alike. Ty Hunter, Beyonce’s personal stylist, Keith Beasley, Empire Season 2 and Rapper Consequence from VH1’s Love & Hip Hop were some of the celebrities in attendance.
At the end of the competition one Queen was crowned and that was Frances Udukwu, representing Cross River. She has a Bachelor of Science in Public Health and Healthcare Systems Management from Temple University and is currently a healthcare consultant. She is intent on demonstrating commitment and assisting young Nigerian trailblazers as herself to advocate for the less fortunate, tell her story and encourage others to service humanity.
