( ENSPIRE COMMUNITY ) MOVING COMPANY HELPS WOMEN ESCAPE ABUSIVE HOMES FOR FREE
With statistics like one in three women facing abuse at some point in their lives, domestic violence is clearly a huge issue in the world. It’s incredibly difficult for women to leave those situations and even more difficult for women to physically take their things and move out.
That’s where Aaron and Evan Steed in California come in.
Since starting Meathead Movers in 1997, the duo have helped hundreds of women with little or no money pack up and quickly move their things while their abusive partners were away.
After things turned violent during a move in 2000 when one abuser walked in during a move, Meathead Movers teamed up with a local women’s shelter to ensure that both the moving crew and women were safe during and after the move.
CEO Aaron Steed says “What was good about that is, they could be vetting the requests for help, supporting the women with counselling, and making sure when we went in, the proper restraining orders were in place, or police were on hand if necessary.”
The company operates in the Santa Barbara, Ventura, Orange, Los Angeles and San Diego counties where they have teamed up with several women’s shelters.
Meathead Movers, staying true to their name, gives employment preference to able-bodied athletes working their way through college.
