( ENSPIRE ENTERTAINMENT ) TV One Brings the Drama with “MEDIA,” a New Original Movie
MEDIA focuses on the Jones family, who owns and operates JUMP, a dynasty that has dominated the national urban media scene for years. Between affairs and conspiracies, backdoor deals, fierce rivalries and even murder, the Jones family is doing everything they can to stop anyone or anything trying to tear them apart.
We had the opportunity of speaking with the cast members and creative team of “MEDIA.” TV One’s creative team has been working on creating original content. This particular story is centered around a strong black female character and her family. We wanted to know more than just the drama on the show. Let’s be honest the majority of African American tv shows with story lines of moguls are usually centered around music. MEDIA takes a different turn showing the corporate side and the several entities of a media dealings. According to TV One’s Executive Producer/SVP, D’Angela Proctor, “TV One is owned by radio and it would have been predictable. The richness of media is not limited. We wanted to show the whole world all of these areas of competition within media (billboards, magazines, commercials). We wanted to explore something yet to be explored and telling the untold.”
So what is the untold story? It was stated several times during the interview of the importance of minority-owned media company owned by a strong black woman. People need to see that these type of woman exist and need to be talked about. This particularly stands out to us as we are also minority-owned and majority female owned media publication. After talking to the cast praise of the writing, connections with each other and focus on a different corporate/entertainment industry has already set MEDIA apart in my opinion. Their connections to each other as actors and relevance to characters in aspects of love, family, and business always comes clear across a tv screen. This new original movie highlights how a powerful matriarch and her children maintain the family’s entertainment company amongst scandal and rivalries.
