( ENSPIRE Entertainment ) 2017 Black Girls Rock Awards with India.Arie and Much More

On August 22nd The Black Girls Rock 2017 showed a great amount of love and empowerment for black women. There were many black women present who rocked the stage with their acceptance speeches and performances. Recording artist SZA took the stage and opened up the show with her single “Normal girl” from her Album titled “CTRL.” Singer and songwriter Solange, after being crowned the “Rockstar” of BET’s Black Girls Rock gave a heartfelt speech about black women uplifting each other and feeling invincible. Congresswoman Maxine Waters received the “Social Humanitarian Award” and gave a speech on being a strong black woman, feeling empowered and to never give up.
India.Arie serenaded the legendary Roberta Flack at the 2017 Black Girls Rock Awards. India performed Flack’s 1972 international hit “The First Time Ever I Saw Your Face,” which garnered her the Grammy for “Record “and “Song of the Year.” India.Arie was then joined by Grammy nominee and actor Tyrese to perform “Where Is The Love.” The song is one of Flack’s timeless love songs she performed with the late Donnie Hathaway. They won a Grammy Award for “Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.”
India.Arie released her new EP, SongVersation: Medicine (Click Here), which is an extension of her 2013 release SongVersation, the eight song EP is India’s offering during these tumultuous times. The EP, as the singer said: “Was made to be listened to in a quiet time, prayer, meditation, Yoga.” She is expected to teach The SongVersation Practice at Berklee College of Music in Boston this fall.
