By ENSPIRE Contributor: Tylah Willis

Yesterday in the sports world, the Cleveland Cavaliers made a surprising trade with the Boston Celtics which included Kyrie Irving for Isaiah Thomas, Jae Crowder, and Ante Zizic. Many fans are in shock by the decision of the two teams and were outraged that their star players are leaving their favorite teams.

There are fans who are outraged from this announcement, their team members such as Lebron James and Jayson Tatum express their fondness to their old colleagues. James posted a tweet about Irving in response to another post stating, “That’s the only way to be to the kid! Special talent/guy! Nothing but respect and what a ride it was our 3 years together Young Gode.

Tatum, on the other hand, is excited to work with respected player Kyrie Irving. Both players share the same alma mater (Duke University) and look forward to playing together side by side on the court.

Although fans continue to respect Kyrie Irving after the trade, Celtics fans aren’t fond of letting Isaiah Thomas go. Celtics fans have decimated his jersey in a spark of the outrage of his trade. Many people are calling these actions as is which is disrespectful because this is the same man who continued to play for your entertainment a day after his sister passed away. Thomas averaged 28.9 points per game with the highest field goal on the Celtics according to ESPN and was named all star in the past two seasons but in return, he is greeted with blatant disrespect. Fellow teammate Jaylen Brown made a comment on the event calling the act “pathetic”.

Actions such as these aren’t the first to occur. In 2010 Lebron James became a free agent and decided to sign with the Miami Heat. Cleveland Cavalier fans weren’t pleased with the decision and proceeded to burn his jersey.

A few days after the trade was announced, the Cleveland Cavaliers delayed the trade due to the concern of Isaiah Thomas’s hip injury he sustained on March 15th against the Timberwolves. In order to complete the deal, the Cavaliers asked for an additional draft pick from the Celtics which sealed and fulfilled the deal to trade both all star players on August 30th.

It’s understandable to get angry when your favorite player is traded to another team but vile acts shouldn’t be the response. Instead, wish them luck and begin to enjoy the following season. As for Irving, Thomas, Crowder, and Zizic continue to entertain the crowd as we look forward to an interesting season.
