( ENSPIRE Sports )  So Fans Still Burning Jerseys? No Love in Boston

There seems to be an issue with the fans and players who change teams. LeBron James spoke out about this on Twitter saying, ‘The burning of the jersey thing is getting ridiculous now!’ and ‘When “we” decide to do what best for us it’s “cowardly” “traitor”, etc but when it’s on the other side it’s “business” huh!?!?’ Former teammate Jaylen Brown also commented, calling this action ‘pathetic’. It’s one thing to feel salty when someone has the choice to leave in free agency like LeBron James did in 2009 or Gordon Hayward did this year but in the case of a player like Isaiah Thomas who was traded it appears unnecessary. Thomas had no control over where he would end up. Burning jerseys are unacceptable and disrespectful so it shouldn’t be happening in the first place. Burning a player’s jersey after a trade? “Fans” are doing this as a trend nowadays and it a bit bothersome. They follow sports and specific teams for a number of years yet they don’t understand how the business works. Even if Isaiah Thomas had left in free agency he didn’t deserve to have his jersey burned after all he’s done for the Boston Celtics in just last year alone. Isiah Thomas lead them to the 1st seed in the Eastern Conference and even playing in a playoff game after the tragic death of his sister. This jersey burning fad has to stop.
