The editors of GQ, made Colin Kaepernick the cover of their magazine’s November issue calling it “Colin Kaepernick Will Not Be Silenced.” The article is composed of several statements by influential people from Ava DuVernay, J. Cole, Tamika Mallory, Harry Belafonte and many more. Radio personality and Colin’s girlfriend Nessa stated “Colin has always been helping people, he has always been involved because he has empathy. Empathy was a reason why he was adopted.”

The column includes several photos paying homage to the Black Panther Party and Muhammad Ali. According to his stylist, he also requested to wear clothes from black-owned fashion companies. Kaepernick’s stylist Rachel Johnson told Refinery29, “There are not a huge pool of Black designers to choose from honestly, you know, it didn’t take very long to put our list together.” Harlem Haberdashery is one of the designers Johnson chose to style Kaepernick. They created the leather jacket for Colin which embodied a Black Panther member, creating a strong political statement in his photoshoot.

Since his bold protest, he has not been signed by any football team. He has also been criticized by other black athletes for choosing to stand up and call out the injustices black people face in America.  He jeopardized his entire football career to give a voice to the voiceless which is much reason as to why he deserves this recognition.
